{"id":1333,"date":"2026-07-31T21:29:29","date_gmt":"2026-07-31T21:29:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vaultinsider.top\/?p=1333"},"modified":"2026-07-31T21:29:29","modified_gmt":"2026-07-31T21:29:29","slug":"yc-backed-ai-startup-faces-backlash-after-founder-offered-interviews-for-tattoos-then-apologized","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vaultinsider.top\/?p=1333","title":{"rendered":"YC-backed AI startup faces backlash after founder offered interviews for tattoos, then apologized"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/img-assets\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/GettyImages-153339696-e1785530904547.jpg?w=2048\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A startup founder said he offered instant interviews to anyone who got company tattoos at a recent event\u2014and several people apparently took him up on it.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jordan Zietz, the CEO and cofounder of Y Combinator-backed startup LemonLime, said in a now-deleted LinkedIn post that seven people took him up on his offer and got tattoos from an artist the company brought along to a recent YC Startup School after party.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the deleted post, Zietz said the five-month old AI automation company hosted the event \u201cto meet exceptional people, and find out which of them are just as crazy as we are.\u201d Later in the post, he added that people looking to apply to the company \u201cmight want to take notes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Still, after he raved about the event online, Zietz was immediately attacked by people who said he had gone too far, as well as others who wondered whether the difficult job market really merited going to such extremes to merely get an interview.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cImagine getting branded with the LemonLime logo for a job interview, then getting rejected,\u201d wrote one user on X.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe job market cannot be this cooked that kids have to get permanent tattoos to get interviews,\u201d wrote another.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Zietz and Y Combinator did not immediately reply to <em>Fortune<\/em>\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The criticism was so intense that Zietz took down his LinkedIn post and wrote an apology post.\u00a0 The startup founder said the five-person company actually offered free tattoos to those who attended the event and nobody was forced to tattoo the startup\u2019s logo on themselves.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, his deleted LinkedIn post explicitly offered the interview to anyone who got \u201ca LemonLime tattoo,\u201d specifically, not a tattoo of their choice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat I thought would be a fun, memorable way to meet people was, in reality, reckless, and instead came across as tying a permanent tattoo to (sic) job opportunity, which showed poor judgement,\u201d he wrote in the apology.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added that interviews were available to everybody regardless of if they got a tattoo or not. All seven applicants remain in the interview process, and even Zietz and several LemonLime founding team members also got the tattoo themselves.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Still, one of the people who got a tattoo at the event, and was featured in Zietz\u2019s since-deleted LinkedIn post, startup founder Dimple Amitha Garuadapuri, wrote in a separate X post that while she did not, \u201calmost everyone else got a LemonLime logo tattoo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Garuadapuri, the founder of women\u2019s health startup Stri Health, said she instead got an unspecified \u201cpersonal\u201d tattoo. \u201cI love it,\u201d she wrote in the post.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not everyone hated the LemonLime tattoo idea. Palmer Luckey, the founder of Anduril, said in a reply to Zietz\u2019s apology on X that the young startup founder shouldn\u2019t apologize because, \u201cThe critics will never be satisfied.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI have no problem with adults deciding to get a tattoo. We don\u2019t need to infantilize college-educated adults as kids who need to be protected by their betters,\u201d Luckey wrote in a follow-up post.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Zietz, for his part, said in his apology that the \u201ccompany stunt was poorly exercised judgement,\u201d and that he got \u201ccarried away.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019ve taken the posts down and have spoken to everyone who participated.
