{"id":2447,"date":"2026-08-17T00:15:12","date_gmt":"2026-08-17T00:15:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vaultinsider.top\/?p=2447"},"modified":"2026-08-17T00:15:12","modified_gmt":"2026-08-17T00:15:12","slug":"blanche-defends-reflecting-pool-prosecutor-who-angered-trump","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vaultinsider.top\/?p=2447","title":{"rendered":"Blanche defends reflecting pool prosecutor who angered Trump"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/img-assets\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/GettyImages-2289203744.jpg?w=2048\" \/><\/p>\n<p>US Attorney General Todd Blanche defended Jeanine Pirro for dismissing a federal vandalism case in a decision that angered President Donald Trump, saying the top prosecutor in Washington, DC, should be judged fairly.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Blanche, a former personal lawyer for Trump who was sworn in last week as head of the Justice Department, took Pirro\u2019s side after she decided not to prosecute a former Olympian initially charged with vandalizing the lining of the Reflecting Pool in front of the Lincoln Memorial.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said Pirro, the US attorney for Washington, DC, was pursuing other cases of alleged vandalism \u2014 and claimed Trump backs her, too.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI absolutely support US Attorney Pirro, as does President Trump,\u201d Blanche said on NBC\u2019s\u00a0<em>Meet the Press<\/em>. \u201cNow, that\u2019s different than whether the president is extraordinarily frustrated at what happened in that case. And I don\u2019t in any way fault him for that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump has previously lashed out at Pirro, a longtime ally of the president, after her office said in a court filing that \u201cbotched\u201d construction work was primarily to blame for damage to the coating of the pool.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump has repeatedly blamed the damage on vandals, without providing evidence.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Asked whether he\u2019d promise that the Justice Department would always act independently of the White House, Blanche said, \u201cNo, I can\u2019t pledge that,\u201d arguing he can\u2019t obligate himself to oppose policy goals set by the president. Instead, Blanche said, he and federal prosecutors \u201cwill act with integrity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe will prosecute without fear or any sort of favor,\u201d he told NBC. The Justice Department traditionally decides what cases to prosecute without White House interference.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Read More:\u00a0Trump Says He Is Undecided on Keeping Pirro as Top DC Prosecutor<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Blanche sought to shift attention to other cases of alleged vandalism at national monuments in the capital, saying Pirro \u201cis doing a phenomenal job of enforcing that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAnd I think judging her on a single case because of the evidence that we had is not fair,\u201d Blanche told NBC.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While Blanche didn\u2019t cite specific incidents, Pirro\u2019s office last week charged a Kentucky woman with vandalism for spraying the World War II memorial on the National Mall\u00a0with graffiti.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Blanche said he\u2019d consider Trump\u2019s opinion if the president pressed for the Reflecting Pool case to be revived.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWill I take the president of the United States\u2019 view on something into consideration? Yes, of course,\u201d he said.
