{"id":3924,"date":"2026-09-05T18:01:38","date_gmt":"2026-09-05T18:01:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vaultinsider.top\/?p=3924"},"modified":"2026-09-05T18:01:38","modified_gmt":"2026-09-05T18:01:38","slug":"us-hits-iranian-tankers-and-warns-it-will-destroy-oil-fleet-if-necessary-after-navy-ships-targeted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vaultinsider.top\/?p=3924","title":{"rendered":"US hits Iranian tankers and warns it will destroy oil fleet if necessary after Navy ships targeted"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/img-assets\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/AP26247569143031-e1788620266969.jpg?w=2048\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The U.S. military on Saturday said it struck three Iranian oil tankers after Navy warships were targeted with missiles, warning that it would \u201cif necessary, destroy\u00a0Iran\u2019s\u00a0limited and exposed oil fleet.\u201d<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The strikes \u2014 a day after President Donald Trump sought to minimize the conflict as\u00a0\u201csmall potatoes\u201d\u00a0\u2014 keep up a new tilt back toward fighting after six months of on-again, off-again war that began with U.S. and Israeli attacks on Feb. 28. Both sides have sought to inflict both military and economic pain, and negotiations have collapsed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The military\u2019s statement said a U.S. aircraft carrier and a destroyer evaded \u201cmultiple unprovoked Iranian attacks\u201d while patrolling in the region and no U.S. personnel were hurt. It said two Iranian oil carriers were \u201cpermanently disabled\u201d and the third, unladen one, was destroyed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The U.S. statement said the tankers were part of a shadow network helping to fund\u00a0Iran\u2019s powerful Revolutionary Guard\u00a0and its armed proxies in the region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier, Iranian state TV had said four U.S. missiles struck a tanker about six miles (10 kilometers) from Kharg Island, home to a terminal through which the country exports most of its oil. Kharg Island been repeatedly targeted during the war, including U.S. strikes on military sites there in March.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The U.S. said one tanker was struck off Kharg Island and another was struck near Jask, east of the Strait of Hormuz. The unladen tanker was hit in the Gulf of Oman. The statement shared what it called video footage of the strikes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe will not hesitate to defend American forces, and if necessary, destroy Iran\u2019s limited and exposed oil fleet,\u201d the head of U.S. Central Command Adm. Brad Cooper said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The strikes came nearly a week after the U.S. and Iran resumed attacks following a month of relative calm, with the strait and Iranian communities along it again being targeted. At least\u00a0five people were killedearlier in the week during a U.S. bombardment of southern Iran. One strike hit a wedding.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The resumption of fighting came after new U.S. efforts to apply economic pressures on Tehran, whose hard-line new senior leaders have signaled the willingness to dig in after weathering decades of sanctions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, the issue that helped lead to the war \u2014\u00a0Iran\u2019s nuclear program\u2014 was meant to be addressed in negotiations that fell apart soon after the U.S. and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding in mid-June.
