A civil engineering contractor has acquired its headquarters as part of its rapid growth since it was taken over by the Crumlish family eight years ago.<\/p>\n
John McGeady Ltd, which provides services such as road surfacing and plant hire across Scotland, has been supported by Bank of Scotland to buy its base in South Street, Glasgow, where it had been a tenant for two years.<\/p>\n
It says that owning the site will give the company greater long-term security and flexibility as it continues to increase its capacity.<\/p>\n
It is looking to invest further in a recycling facility and training centre. It currently has 60 employees and aims to add a further 40 over the next few years.<\/p>\n
Managing directot Thomas Crumlish said: \u201cBuying the South Street site gives us the confidence to think longer term. It gives us more control over how we develop the business and creates the space to invest in our people and future opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n
Founded by John McGeady in 1982, the business changed hands in 2018. The Crumlish family retained the John McGeady name, with both families continuing to work together.<\/p>\n
Over that period annual turnover has risen from about \u00a3900,000 to more than \u00a320 million in its most recent accounts, with revenues forecast to reach \u00a330m this year.<\/p>\n
The growth has been driven by investment in the company\u2019s workforce and capabilities, enabling it to broaden its services and compete for larger contracts. While projects three to five years ago were typically worth around \u00a3150,000, the business can now take on individual contracts of up to \u00a34m.<\/p>\n
The proposed training centre could be used to develop skills within John McGeady Ltd own workforce, as well as provide training to people outside the business, creating an additional route into the industry.<\/p>\n
The location complements the company\u2019s existing base in Blantyre, supporting projects across Glasgow, Dumfries and Galloway and the wider country.<\/p>\n
The 4.3-acre yard also provides a central home for the company\u2019s growing fleet, which now comprises around 56 pieces of plant and equipment supporting its civil engineering, road surfacing and plant hire operations.<\/p>\n
