{"id":5866,"date":"2026-10-02T15:32:43","date_gmt":"2026-10-02T15:32:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vaultinsider.top\/?p=5866"},"modified":"2026-10-02T15:32:43","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T15:32:43","slug":"ben-affleck-says-predictions-that-ai-will-wipe-out-jobs-or-kill-us-all-are-just-propaganda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vaultinsider.top\/?p=5866","title":{"rendered":"Ben Affleck says predictions that AI will wipe out jobs\u2014or kill us all\u2014are just &#8216;propaganda&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/img-assets\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/BenA-Getty-2297437992.jpg?w=2048\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For all the anxiety surrounding AI\u2014from fears that it will destroy jobs to predictions that it could even wipe out humanity\u2014one Hollywood star thinks people may be making the technology seem scarier than it actually is.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ben Affleck, the actor and screenwriter known for films like <em>Good Will Hunting<\/em>, believes that growing fears surrounding AI are largely \u201cpropaganda\u201d\u2014and once people sit down and use it, they realize it can be a tool for good.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c[Once] it moves from this nebulous, abstract, terrifying alien\u2014\u2018It\u2019s going to kill us all, we\u2019re paperclips, and it\u2019s going to wipe out half of white-collar jobs, all this propaganda\u2019\u2014and they actually see what it is, it\u2019s like another form of computing that does tools and is a technological advancement,\u201d Affleck recently told <em>Bloomberg<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Affleck has been one of the most vocal supporters of AI technology in the industry. In 2022, he founded InterPositive, an AI-focused filmmaking startup, and earlier this year, it was reportedly purchased by Netflix for $587 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But when asked about the role of AI in producing his new movie <em>Animals<\/em>, Affleck wasn\u2019t eager to pull back the curtain on exactly how the technology is playing a role in production.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m a little bit hesitant to point out what they are or even talk about it because in my business, we\u2019re trying to foster the illusion of reality,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s like if you went to a magic show and the magician walked out and said, just before I start, I want you to know there\u2019s another bunny under here, this guy\u2019s a plant\u2014it sort of ruins it.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Affleck worries about AI\u2019s impact on Gen Z and Gen Alpha\u2014but thinks Hollywood can adapt<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Affleck, whose net worth is estimated at $300 million, isn\u2019t bullish on every aspect of AI. In particular, he worries about how the technology could affect education\u2014and whether people will become too reliant on it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhen I worry about AI, I worry about my kids in school, I worry about the 30% rise in the number of As given out at colleges in the last three years,\u201d Affleck said. \u201cI worry about learned helplessness. I worry about responsible use.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That tension, between using AI as a tool and becoming overly dependent on it, has become one of the central debates across industries. In Hollywood, Affleck said, he hasn\u2019t seen AI being used to just \u201csmash costs or do heinous things.\u201d Instead, he sees the technology augmenting rather than replacing workers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s being used on films now where they have the same number of people\u2014in fact, more people technically are being employed,\u201d Affleck said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Affleck\u2019s experience, however, comes against a backdrop of declining employment in the broader motion picture and video production industry. Between 2016 and 2026, the industry shed 49,000 jobs, a decline of 21%, according to Labor Department data.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-datawrapper wp-block-embed-datawrapper\"\/>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From James Cameron to Matthew McConaughey, Hollywood is figuring out how to embrace AI<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Affleck is not alone among Hollywood figures in arguing that AI is a technology the industry needs to embrace, even as they differ over how it should be used and regulated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Billionaire James Cameron, who notably directed <em>The Terminator,<\/em> has gone so far as to take a formal role in the industry\u2019s AI development, joining the board of AI company Stability AI in 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Actor Natasha Lyonne, known for on-screen roles in Netflix\u2019s <em>Russian Doll <\/em>and <em>Orange is the New Black<\/em>\u201d has also embraced the technology while emphasizing the importance of protecting artists\u2019 rights. She is the cofounder of Asteria Film Co., an artist-led animation and film studio that aims to develop copyright-friendly generative AI for film and other creative work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lyonne has argued that Hollywood needs to be involved in shaping how AI is developed rather than simply resisting it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s super kosher copacetic to just kind of rob freely under the auspices of acceleration or China,\u201d she said at <em>Fortune<\/em>\u2019s Brainstorm AI conference last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe need human beings in AI so that the tools don\u2019t run us,\u201d Lyonne added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Matthew McConaughey has echoed the idea that Hollywood cannot simply sit out the AI revolution.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s not coming. It\u2019s here,\u201d he said in a <em>CNN<\/em> Town Hall in February. McConaughey has reportedly filed a series of trademarks covering his image and signature expressions to make it harder for AI companies or bad actors to simulate him without permission.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDon\u2019t deny it,\u201d McConaughey said in a recent conversation alongside actor Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet. \u201cIt\u2019s not enough to sit on the sidelines and make the moral plea that this is wrong.
