A night with President Obama in Glasgow – Daily Business Magazine

The 44th US occupant of the White House will give his view of world politics, writes JULENA DRUMI

Following the success of last year’s events in Dublin and London An Evening with President Barack Obama is coming to Glasgow at the OVO Hydro.

Presented by Seat Unique in conjunction with Fane, Kilimanjaro, Singular Artists and Regular Music, the evening offers a rare chance to hear directly from the 44th president. He will be in Glasgow on 14 October, part of a three-city tour that includes Belfast (13) and Manchester (15).

As can be expected, nights with a president, whether or not in office, don’t come cheap. A front row seat costs £595 while a photo VIP package will set you back £1,500.

Winning more votes than any candidate in history, President Obama took office “at a moment of crisis unlike any America had seen in decades,” says the launch promotion. “A nation at war, a planet in peril, and the American Dream itself threatened by the worst economic calamity since the Great Depression.”

The organisers are lavish in their praise of Obama’s tenure at the White House, stating: “His leadership helped rescue the American economy, revitalised the American auto industry, grow the middle class, pass the Affordable Care Act, wind down two wars, and refocus American diplomatic leadership around the world – all while overseeing the longest stretch of job creation in American history.”

Post-presidency, Obama has dedicated his efforts to supporting the next generation of leaders. The Obama Foundation is bringing that vision to life through programmes for emerging leaders across continents, and the Foundation’s mission to inspire, empower, and connect people to change their world. That legacy will carry on through the Obama Presidential Center, which opened this summer on Chicago’s South Side.

Obama said: “True democracy is a project that’s much bigger than any one of us. It’s bigger than any one person, any one president, and any one government. It’s a job for all of us.”
