Scotland’s richest man has added one of the country’s historic houses to his portfolio of properties and land holdings.
Billionaire Dane Anders Povlsen has acquired Kinross House Estate, on the western shore of Loch Leven, via his WildLand company, reports The Times.
He already owns more than 220,000 acres across a dozen estates and his business interests extend to the Asos online fashion company and the former Jenners department store building in Edinburgh.
Kinross House, built in 1692, has been operating as a luxury retreat and exclusive wedding and events venue set in just over 100 acres of landscaped formal gardens and ancient woodlands.
Joseph Dunn, a spokesman for WildLand, said: “Kinross House and Loch Leven are extraordinary places, shaped by centuries of history and by people who have cared deeply for them. We are very conscious that becoming the owners of a special place like Kinross House Estate comes with a responsibility that reaches far beyond us.
“Our ambition is not to put our own stamp on Kinross House Estate, but to be good custodians of what is already there — to protect its character, care for its people, buildings, landscapes and wildlife, and contribute to preserving all this for generations to come.
“An important part of that is also keeping Kinross House alive and welcoming, so that guests can continue to experience and enjoy this remarkable place.”
Since acquiring the estate in 2011, the Yorkshire businessman Donald Fothergill has overseen a comprehensive restoration of Kinross House and its historic gardens.
