Former SNP MSP and MP Michelle Thomson has taken up a new role as a strategic adviser with Growth for Good which helps businesses and organisations that want to make better decisions.

Ms Thomson stood down from the Scottish parliament in May after serving as MSP for Falkirk East from 2021 and as MP for Edinburgh West from 2015 to 2017.

Commenting on her new role, she said: “My focus will be helping businesses and organisations test assumptions, understand the risks of action and inaction, and make better decisions where commercial priorities, public policy and responsible growth meet.

“I will also continue the work that matters deeply to me in supporting women-led businesses.”

Her new position takes her back into a business-facing role. She co-founded Momentous Change, a research and consultancy firm specialising in strategic change and before entering politics worked in a range of senior change roles at Standard Life.

At Holyrood, she served as deputy convener of the Economy and Fair Work Committee and as a member of the Finance and Public Administration Committee.

During her time at Westminster, she served on the Business, Innovation and Skills Committee and led the interrogation of Sir Philip Green during the BHS pension inquiry.

She was named Political Hero of the Year in 2023 and Backbencher of the Year in 2024.
