A Scottish company that has solved the problem of transmitting data through water and solid surfaces has completed an oversubscribed £2.6 million funding round to help commercialise its technology.
CSignum, headquartered in Bathgate near Edinburgh, says the technology enables reliable data communications in environments that historically have been “impossible to connect”.
Archangels, PXN Ventures, Scottish Enterprise, British Business Bank and a group of US-based angel investors have provided additional investment to support commercial expansion and manufacturing scale-up.
Lead US investor Rob Soni noted that CSignum has developed “a genuinely new form of wireless communications in electromagnetic field signalling that carries data through water, ice, rock, soil and concrete – media that have always blocked conventional signals.
“That unique capability unlocks a global market for monitoring and protecting some of the world’s most critical assets, and makes CSignum a key enabler of AI in the physical world. This explains why the round was so heavily oversubscribed.”
CSignum was established in 2020 and since completing a £6m investment with the existing investor group in April 2025 it has moved from pilot projects into volume deployments with a number of UK water utilities and international customers. It continues to add staff in the UK, US and EU as it scales its operations.
It has also announced that John Nicholls will take over as chief executive from US-based tech entrepreneur Jonathan Reeves who will become chief strategy officer.
Mr Nicholls brings broad experience as both CEO and chief commercial officer in international sales growth, fundraising, M&A and strategic partnerships across a wide range of market sectors including photonics, quantum technologies, space, semiconductors and EV infrastructure.
He said: “I’m excited to be joining CSignum at this pivotal moment in its journey. The team has built a differentiated technology and strong customer relationships across diverse market sectors, and my focus now is turning that potential into large-scale deployments.

“CSignum’s approach solves that without the cost and complexity of cabling, with monitoring requirements in water and other infrastructure sectors becoming more stringent.”
