Former Liberal Democrat MSP Jamie Greene, who lost his seat in May, has launched a political advisory firm for organisations navigating devolved government and politics.
Mr Greene, who served in parliament for over a decade, intially as a Conservative member, has launched Kempock, claiming that it “positions itself deliberately apart from traditional lobbying and public relations firms”.
Rather than selling access, it offers senior political counsel, he says. It also partners with traditional government relations, communications and PR agencies, “complementing their client offering rather than competing with it”.
During his time at Holyrood, Greene worked across policy areas including justice, education, transport, digital and public audit.
“Losing an election is a very public way to reach a turning point,” he said. “But it gave me the chance to build something of my own — and to put more than a decade of hard-won political experience to work for the organisations that need it most.
“Most organisations experience politics from the outside looking in. Kempock helps them see it from the inside looking out.”
The consultancy takes its name from the Kempock Stone in Gourock, on the banks of the Clyde on the west coast of Scotland. It was a landmark that sailors historically circled before setting out to sea, seeking safe passage through uncertain waters — a metaphor for today’s political maelstrom.
