Musk warns Dems he will retaliate if they use congressional power to probe him

Elon Musk vowed to push back on Democratic lawmakers who may seek to use oversight powers against him if they’re able to gain control of one or both chambers of Congress.

Musk responded to a story by Politico that detailed how Democrats have considered ways in which they could investigate the billionaire and his businesses like Tesla and SpaceX.

“Live by the sword, die by the sword,” Musk wrote in a post on his X platform.

“Those who pick fights with me should understand that I will find out who is really pulling the strings and come for them, not just their puppets.”

Musk has been a major donor to GOP candidates and worked with the Trump administration through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), and his business dealings with the federal government through his various ventures are also likely to draw scrutiny from a potential Democratic majority.

The billionaire helped launch DOGE at the outset of President Donald Trump’s second term as a means of rooting out waste and promoting transparency about the federal government’s spending.

Musk was heavily involved with DOGE’s operations until he departed DOGE and his role in the Trump administration in late May to refocus on his duties as the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX after his 130-day status as a special government employee expired. He also disagreed with aspects of the new administration’s policies.

DOGE’s efforts included deferred resignations and buyouts of employees at federal agencies and contributed to a significant downsizing of the federal workforce, which contracted by about 250,000 employees during 2025, according to the Government Accountability Office (GAO).

Aside from DOGE’s role in slashing the federal workforce, DOGE sparked calls for investigations over its role in accessing sensitive data like Social Security records and withholding funds.

Democratic lawmakers have also alleged there are conflicts of interest between Musk and the federal government given the contracts that his firms like SpaceX and Tesla receive from a range of agencies.
